With online applications and “Quick Apply” options, it effortless to apply to countless jobs; however, you still need to customize not only your cover letter, but your resume for each, to demonstrate how your experience makes you a great candidate. Short on time? Take a deep breath and relax because you do not need to customize your entire resume. Instead, focus on the Professional Summary and Skills section.
The Professional Summary is a high-level view of you as a candidate that should connect the dots for the reader. Cater your summary to the job post by having them side by side while you write. Here is a bonus tip for the summary: Emily Moore advises, “This is also a great place to hint at why you’re a good cultural fit.”
Typically, the Skills section is a bulleted list of just that: skills. Because it is so direct and simple, be sure to update your skills to match the job post (for skills you really possess). Make it quick and easy for the reader to see you were made for the role.
Even when you do not have a lot of time, you can quickly customize your resume to increase your chances of moving ahead in the interview process. Generic resumes are easy to submit anywhere and everywhere, but rarely will they yield results.
